Gitte Jensen, Ph.D

Chairperson

Dr. Gitte Jensen, founder and research director of NIS Labs, specializes in pioneering Natural Products Research. With a background in cancer research and a focus on immune surveillance and systems biology, her academic appointments have included prestigious institutions such as the University of Aarhus, University of Alberta, and McGill University. Her expertise uniquely bridges traditional medicine with innovative developments in the natural products industry, utilizing mainstream research tools to advance the field.

With over 30 years of experience in R&D, Dr. Jensen is a hands-on scientist who strategically plans and executes research in biological sciences and natural products. She designs clinical trials supported by an on-site immunological laboratory for unique tests on immune status and stem cell biology. Working with international clients, she tests natural products globally while maintaining an active presence in peer-reviewed literature. Additionally, she leads bioassay development specifically for natural product studies. Personally, Dr. Jensen has a profound interest in algae as food and nutraceuticals, particularly Aphanizomenon flos aquae (AFA). Her passion extends to kayaking on Upper Klamath Lake during AFA blooms and observing its seasonal changes and wildlife year-round.

Bob Jackman, Ph.D

Cerule’s Scientific Advisory Board

Dr. Bob Jackman, a distinguished Food Scientist, holds a BSc (Hon) from the University of British Columbia and MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Guelph. He has made significant contributions to the field, authoring over 25 peer-reviewed journal articles, six book chapters, and several Records of Invention. His research spans natural food pigments, food protein properties, protein engineering, postharvest physiology, fruit and vegetable texture, and extracting value-added compounds from foods and organic waste.

For two decades, Robert has provided R&D and technical support to the Food and Natural Health Product industries. With Canada's recent cannabis legalization, he advises clients on compliance and develops Standard Operating Procedures. He has secured over 60 NHP Licenses, including challenging combination products, multiple NHP site licenses for diverse clients, and a Cannabis License. Robert is or has been affiliated with the Canadian Institute of Food Science & Technology, Institute of Food Technologists, American Botanical Society, American Chemical Society, and serves on the Cerule Scientific Advisory Board.

Veronique Traynard, Ph.D

Corporate Liaison To Advisory Board

After completing a food science engineering program focused on nutrition and public health in France, Dr Veronique Traynard had the privilege to work in a Nutrition Research Laboratory associated with the food industry, studying the impact of weaning methods on children's food habits. During her PhD in Nutrition Physiology, her objective was to understand intestinal lipid absorption and its deregulation in obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. She initiated collaborations and partnerships with various labs and research teams, consistently striving to bridge fundamental research with applied Research and Development approaches. Her efforts were particularly focused on the development and characterization of natural plant extracts.

Post-PhD, Dr Traynard entered the field of food supplements within Research and Development firms operating in an international environment. Her diverse roles included clinical research, formulation of food supplements, managing regulatory aspects, supporting the Marketing team, and conducting training for customers and doctors. She has always been interested in linking fundamental and clinical research on plant and algae extracts with practical formulation of food supplements, providing natural solutions to both the general public and the scientific community.
